CHENNAI: A city court on Monday sentenced a 38-year-old man to ten years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for raping and impregnating a 17-year-old girl in 2018. The accused was arrested after the girl’s family learnt about her pregnancy and made a police complaint. After five years of trial, the court declared the accused guilty and awarded 10 years Imprisonment. The court further slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on the man. In default of payment of the fine, the accused would have to undergo another three months for imprisonment. Senior officers commended the Inspector of Police, Washermenpet All Woman Police Station (AWPS) and their team for the investigation that ended in conviction. In another incident, Thoraipakkam Police secured conviction in a POCSO case at the Chengalpattu courts. The 53-year-old man was sentenced to 15 years for raping a five-year-ld child.
