CHENNAI: Officials at the city airport seized gold worth Rs 1.8 crore and arrested two people, including a contract staff, on Thursday. The CISF personnel noticed a contract employee talking with a transit passenger for a long time. When they saw the staffer walking towards the exit, the officials grew suspicious and stopped him. During a personal search, they found he was carrying 3.5 kg gold worth Rs 1.8 crore. After getting the man in custody, the Customs officials questioned him and found that he got the gold from a passenger who arrived from Dubai and had just boarded the flight to Sri Lanka. The Customs and CISF officials swung into action and stopped the flight from taking off, and arrested the man from the flight. Further investigation is on.
