Anna varsity begins free skilling courses with Central funding

CHENNAI: With the help of funds from the Union government, Anna University has begun short-term skill development courses for its students free of cost.

The objective of the centrally-sponsored Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) scheme is to improve access, equity and quality in higher education through planned development at the State level.

University sources said that eight courses including the Internet of Things, drafting, auto computer-aided design (CAD), 3D modelling of solid works and 3D printing are applicable to its students. A senior professor from the varsity said that drafting of the Auto CAD course has already started.

“The 8 courses will add value to the students who will graduate with their UG degrees,” he claimed. “Around 40 students will be admitted per course for a nominal fee.”

Training certificate will be given to each student in the course, which “has been designed as per the latest industrial requirements. The duration of training would differ with each course”.
