City temperature continues to stay above 400 Celsius

CHENNAI: Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature on Friday in the State with 41.1 degrees Celsius.

This is the fourth highest temperature recorder in the weather station in June so far.

Nungambakkam had recorded 42.3 degrees Celsius on June 6, followed by 42.1 degree Celsius on June 3.

On June 2, the temperature was 41.9 degrees Celsius. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the highest temperature recorded in Nungambakkam in the last 10 years was 42.4 degrees Celsius in June 2012.

The second highest temperature on Friday was recorded in Meenambakkam with 40.9 degree Celsius, followed by Tiruthani (40.5 degree Celsius) and Vellore (40.1 degree Celsius).

Meanwhile, the weather department stated that the city’s temperature is likely to increase by two to four degree Celsius than normal for the next two days due to changes in wind patterns. The delay in sea breeze to land in the city is one of the reasons for soaring temperatures.

The met department added that the surge in the mercury level is expected to cause heat stress and sultry conditions in the coastal and interior districts of the State.
