With 91.16 million units, city’s power consumption at all-time high on Thursday

CHENNAI: The city’s energy consumption has touched a new high with 91.16 million units (MUs) on Thursday bettering the previous high of 90.6 Mus, said Minister V Senthilbalaji in a tweet on June 8. “The previous highest consumption of 90.6 MUs was recorded on June 2. However, the city’s power demand stood at 3,872 MW which is met without any power outages,” he wrote. A senior Tangedco official said that with no relief from the sweltering heat, during the day, the usage of ACs at home and office drove the power demand. “On Thursday, the peak power demand stood at 17,829 MW and daily energy consumption stood at 390 MU,” the official said. Due to the cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea, wind power generation has picked up in the State for the last few days. “On Thursday, the generation touched 5,300 MW and produced over 100 MUs,” the official added.
