CM to decide on bifurcation of dists: Min

Replying to a question raised by AIADMK member Sevoor S Ramachandran and DMK member Govi Chezhian on making Arani and Kumbakonam districts, the minister said that the demand to create a new district with Arani as its headquarters cannot be considered as it did not meet the minimum criteria as per the revenue department order dated June 9, 2003.

As Ramachandran pressed for the creation of a new Arani district bifurcating the Thiruvannamalai district, the minister said that like this member, there has been a demand to bifurcate eight districts by MPs and MLAs and they have given petitions in this regard to him and chief minister. “They also sought bifurcation of RTO offices and taluks. The chief minister will take a decision based on the financial situation, “he said. For DMK member Chezhian’s query, he said that all the demands for the bifurcation of the eight districts are under the consideration of the government and the decision would be taken as per the financial condition and prevailing situation.
