‘Take action against obstructors of festival’

CHENNAI: Justice SM Subramaniam of Madras High Court ordered the Puducherry government to conduct the Karaikal Kailasanathar Temple procession on all days of the festival.

The judge further directed the government to take action against those who try to obstruct the procession without compassion.

During the Panguni Uthiram festival held annually in Karaikal Sri Kailasanathar Temple, Puducherry, the idols of Somaskandar, Umaiyambikai and Kandar are taken around the temple in a procession for 10 days. It’s reported that this year the idol procession will be held only on the first day, 9th and 10th day of the festival.

Petitioner Bala Sarveswara Gurukal moved the Madras High Court seeking permission to have the procession on all 10 days of the festival. The counsel for the Puducherry government informed Justice MS Subramaniam that the government had ordered to conduct the procession for all 10 days.

Observing that an order alone as not enough, the judge advised the Puducherry government to ensure the implementation. He also ordered the Puducheryy government to take action against those who try to obstruct the procession, without compassion.

He further directed the Puducherry police to provide adequate security for the festival.
