Guv Ravi may be considering technical reasons before giving nod, says Tamilisai

COIMBATORE: Telangana Governor and Puducherry Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Monday said there may be technical reasons to be considered by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi before giving assent to the Bill against online gambling.

Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, after participating in a graduation day ceremony of a private college, Tamilisai, however said that single opinion prevails that online gambling should be banned.

“Only the Tamil Nadu Governor should reply on the delay in giving assent to the Bill against online gambling. There may be technical reasons in giving the assent, but I do not know its exact status,” she said. Political parties in the state have expressed their displeasure over Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Online Gambling and Regulation of Online Games Ordinance getting lapsed on November 27 due to delay in Governor Ravi giving his assent to the Bill.

On the standoff with Telangana government, Tamilisai said that only the state government has taken a contradictory stand and not her. “I never intend to delay bills, but have only sought more information on them. There is a bill on recruitment, which I will sign only after verifying whether it will be beneficial to people,” she said.

Further, defending her actions, Tamilisai said that a Governor has the authority to meet people as it may help in resolving their issues. She also slammed Chief Minister MK Stalin of not upholding secularity and being biased even in conveying greetings during religious festivals.
