TIRUCHY: Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the SIPCOT Industrial Park at Eraiyur in Perambalur district and laid the foundation stone for the Phoenix Kothari Footwear Park and signed totally 10 MoUs during the function on Monday.

As per the announcement of the state government in 2022-23 on promoting industrial developments in districts like Coimbatore, Perambalur, Madurai, Vellore and Tiruvallur, the Chief Minister inaugurated the industrial park in an area of 243.49 acres at Eraiyur in Perambalur.

Apart from inaugurating the industrial park, the Chief Minister signed 10 MoUs with Kothari Phoenix Accord and its affiliated companies with an investment target of Rs 740 crore, which would ensure employment to at least 4,500 people.

This apart, the state government had already signed two MoUs with an investment of Rs 1,700 crore with Kothari Phoenix Company on August 23, 2022, after the government unveiled a separate policy for footwear and leather goods manufacturing.It is anticipated that non-leather footwear and related industries in Perambalur district would attract an investment of Rs 5,000 crore and generate employment opportunities for 50,000. This would ensure the economical development of Perambalur, which is termed as an economically backward district.

The government assured that women would be given priority in the employment in non-leather footwear industries.

Later, the Chief Minister visited Maligaimedu excavation site at Gangaikonda Cholapuram in Ariyalur and interacted with the officials about the process on Monday evening.

Maligaimedu excavation was inaugurated by Chief Minister Stalin on February 11, 2022 to trace out the historical evidences of Rajendra Cholan, who established Gangaikonda Cholapuram as the capital and the Tamil Nadu Archeological Department undertook the excavation.
