State told to reply on rash driving, modification of bikes without RTO nod

CHENNAI: A Chennai-based advocate has approached the Madras High Court for a direction to the state government to frame Rules and Regulations to restrain people from involving in rash driving of bikes as well as from altering their bikes without getting approval from the RTO.

Advocate M Vignesh of Madras High Court filed the petition alleging that the number of accidents has been increasing to an enormous extent day by day due to rash and negligent driving.

“In recent times it has become a fashion and trend among the youngsters of the state to modify their bikes without getting proper permission from the appropriate authority which is against the Supreme Court’s Order,” the petitioner added.

He further stated that it could be very well noted that the inspiration for such an act is from the Motor-Vloggers & Bike Riders who display their skills and talents by way of riding modified super bikes in a rash & dangerous manner in public places. “The same stunts are being recorded and posted on various social media platforms that fetch them huge monetary benefits,” Madras High Court Advocates’ Associate president and advocate G Mohana Krishnan for the petitioner submitted.

Recording the submissions, the first bench of Acting Chief Justice T Raja and D Krishnakumar directed the state to file its response within four weeks.
