Airport separates vehicles to int’l, domestic terminals

CHENNAI: There will be separate ways henceforth for vehicles that enter and exit the International and Domestic terminals at the city airport. The decision by Airport Authority India is aimed at reducing traffic congestion during peak hours.

Airport sources said every day the number of vehicles that arrive at Chennai airport is increasing and so is traffic congestion. In 2018, around 8,000 vehicles used to visit the Chennai airport premises for a day but now it has increased to more than 12,000. Following this, the traffic is heavily affected in the Chennai airport, especially during peak hours.

Earlier, vehicles that were coming from International and Domestic terminals would exit in the same place which was the main reason for the traffic congestion since the vehicles would be more in numbers in the peak hours.

Now to control the traffic, the AAI has formed a separate way for the domestic and international terminal vehicles and they would enter and exit from the airport in two separate paths. The officials have also increased the number of counters to collect the parking fee so there would be no delay in vehicle movement in the parking area.
