Long queue at EB offices to link Aadhaar irks consumers

CHENNAI: Consumers on Monday complained of long queues at the special counters opened to link Aadhaar with service connection on the first day of Tangedco’s drive and network troubles delaying work.

On the first day of the Aadhaar linking drive, 2.28 lakh consumers linked their connections at special camps while 2.02 lakh consumers did it online on Monday. As of date, 19.24 lakh consumers have completed linking their Aadhaar with the service connections.

At Perambur, 4 section offices — Perambur East and West, Agaram and Poompuhar Nagar are located at the 33 KV Substation on Paper Mills Road. “A long queue was there at the special camp at Perambur, as they had converted one of the paying counters for linking

Aadhaar. It took a long time to link one consumer’s Aadhaar due to network issues,” said Saravanan, a resident of Agaram. “There were many consumers with multiple connections which led to long waiting period for others.”

A consumer at Menambedu near Ambattur said that due to slow network, Tangedco officials turned away several consumers. “They told us to come after two days to link Aadhaar, or try it at any internet centres,” he lamented. “We have to spend at least Rs 50 at the internet centre to link their Aadhaar. What was the point of special camp then?”

“Absolute lack of planning before shoving down mandatory Aadhaar for TNEB by the TN Govt. As bad as how demonetization was handled by Union Government. The website is always down. Physical

centres are packed with long queues. No extra desks to manage crowds,” P Sankar tweeted.

RTI activist V Gopalakrishnan said that consumers were not getting a reference number after linking their Aadhaar with the service number. “Considering overcrowding at the counters, Tangedco should make arrangements to link Aadhaar through e-seva centres,” he pointed out.
