Reinstate Ulundurpet tollgate staff: PMK

PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has sought the intervention of the state to reinstate several employees sacked by the firm operating the tollgate on the National Highway at Ulundurpet.

Stating that about 54 of the 250 employees at Ulundurpet-Senkurichi -Perambalur-Tirumandurai toll gate were sacked by the company without complying with the due rules and procedures, Anbumani on Monday said, “Tamil Nadu government should intervene and cancel the dismissal (of employees) done without following the procedures of downsizing. The government should also issue orders to the firm operating the tollgate to reinstate the employees.”

In a message posted on his official Twitter handle, Anbumani said that as per Permanency Act of 1981, employees who had put in two years and 48 days must be regularised. “Accordingly, the 250 employees who have been working there for the last 13 years, must be regularised. Instead, dismissing them is condemnable,” Anbumani tweeted.

Stating that it was great injustice that neither the district administration nor the highway department had come forward to hold talks with the employees holding a sit-in protest at the toll gate against their illegal dismissal, the PMK president said that the Tamil Nadu government must intervene and cancel the dismissal being done without following the due procedures and rules.
