ED attaches properties of TN businessman

The Enforcement Directorate has attached Rs 49.60 crore worth immovable and movable properties of Tamil Nadu-based businessman Dhanraj Kochar and his family members in connection with a cheating case registered by the Chennai police.

The attached items include Rs 1.16 crore in cash and Rs 12.68 crore worth ornaments.

The directorate had earlier attached properties worth Rs 69.14 crore in connection with the case. Now, the total value is Rs 118.74 crore with the fresh attachment.

The ED initiated money laundering case investigations based on an FIR registered by the Central Crime Branch, Chennai Police.

A press release from the directorate said that Dhanraj had bought properties in Siruseri village for the real estate firm, DR Foundations and Estates during 2005-06, using the funds invested by partner Hameed and his family members and his business entity, Paramount Builders (P) Ltd.

Dhanraj transferred ownership of the properties to himself and his family members, it was alleged.
