Toll rises to 7 in Walajabad gas godown fire

The death toll in the Walajabad gas godown fire has raised to 7, as four more people died without responding to treatment on Monday. Police sources said three of them are in critical condition.

A private gas agency in Devariyampakkam village, Walajabad, which was owned by Jeevanandam, caught fire on Wednesday night and 12 people suffered severe burn injuries.

They were admitted to the Chengalpattu GH and KMC.

Jeevanandam, his daughter Sandhya and worker Amothkumar died without responding to treatment within the following two days.

On Monday early morning, Kishore (13), a class-8 student, Shanmugapriyan (22), Kunal and Gokul died without responding to treatment. Police sources said Nivetha (21) with 60% burns, Tamilarasan (10) with 72%, and Sakthivel (32) with 40% burns were admitted to the KMC. They’re in very critical condition even now. Two others are being treated at Chengaplet GH.
