Girl's estranged lover prime suspect in parents' homicide

A middle-aged couple was found dead with their throats slit in their house in Chromepet on Sunday. Police have registered a case and a search is on to nab their daughter’s lover.

Police identified the deceased as Arumugam (56) of Zamin Royapettah, a flower vendor and his wife Manjula (53). The couple has two daughters and a son. All are married.

Police said the eldest daughter Vasanthi (32) was separated from her husband and was living alone. Vasanthi, an active Instagram user, met Moses on the platform, and formed a relationship.

A few months ago, she caught Moses misbehaving with her 11-year-old daughter and started to avoid him. After that, he’d often visit Arumugam and ask him to persuade Vasanthi to speak to him.

Due to Moses’s harassment, Arumugan shifted to a new house in the same locality 10 days ago. Every day, the couple would talk to Vasanthi over the phone but for the last two days, she didn’t hear from them. And their phone was also not reachable.

So, on Sunday night, Vasanthi went to meet her parents and found the house locked from the inside. With the help of neighbours, she Vasanthi broke open the door and found her parents dead in the living room.

On information, the Chitlapakkam police sent the bodies for post-mortem to Chromepet GH. Browsing CCTV, they found Moses and a young boy entering the house on Saturday at 11 pm and going out on Sunday around 4 am. They believe that Moses murdered the couple and fled the scene.

When they checked his mobile phone signal, they found that he was in Nellore, Andhra Pradesh. The special team has rushed to Andhra to nab him.
