Vir Das’s Chennai show cancelled after death at mall party

Following the death of a techie in VR mall on Saturday, Vir Das had to cancel his stand-up show as authorities locked down the place for investigation. Taking to Twitter, in a thread Vir said that he and his team were headed for the venue when they were informed about the issue. He said that cooperation with the authorities is a given and that they are working on rescheduling the show. Talking about the condition of the venue, he said that there was no getting in or out of the venue.

In another tweet he said, “Guys. We were informed as we were headed to the venue. The authorities have decided to conduct a forensic, full investigation this evening. Spoke to the organisers and there’s honestly no way anyone could have known any sooner. When the police let them know, they let us know” (sic)

Fans expressed their disappointment and commented on how they had to travel from different parts of the country to watch him perform. Vir apologised to upset fans and offered consolation saying that his team and him will definitely work out and reschedule a show as soon as possible.
